CANCELLED/POSTPONED - ETS course for youth workers - YOCOMO, the trigger for attitudes and behaviours

Training Course

4-10 May 2020 | Königswinter, Germany

Attitudes are one of the most challenging parts to approach in our professional development; not so tangible and easy to measure, yet crucial in our work with young people. They manifest in our behaviours, influence our work, relations and social context.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: due to the COVID-19 and being uncertain about the forthcoming develoopment, this training course is unfortunately cancelled for the dates in May 2020 (and the consolidation seminar in September 2020). We will try to organise it later on in autumn 2020 or spring 2021. If so, we will inform each applicant. We hope to be able to get back to you with clearer information as soon as possible.

-----------------------

We are glad to invite you to participate in YOCOMO - the training course, which works with the ETS YOuth worker COmpetence MOdel in order to enable youth workers to reflect on and develop their competences with a focus on their attitudes and behaviours.

INTENTIONS

YOCOMO intends principally to offer you as youth workers a space to reflect and exchange on your practice and understanding with regard to developing attitudes. What does it imply? What does that mean in the context of competences? How do attitudes relate to behaviours? What triggers the change of attitude? How can they be further developed?  How do I know that my attitude has changed?

The main purpose is to offer you an opportunity to be curious about your core attitudes as a youth worker and become aware of what shapes you now and where you would like to develop further, in your professional practice.

The course seeks

  • to raise awareness about attitudes and their influence on daily practices
  • to understand how attitudes relate to competences and behaviours
  • to develop an understanding of how attitudes can be changed or further developed
  • to explore the importance of reflection and self-reflective practice
  • to look into the role of “ETS Competence Model For Youth Workers Working Internationally” in your professional development

So, if…

  • you are a youth worker and you already have experience with international mobility and want to develop your competences further;
  • you are eager to reflect on your attitudes in your work with young people and want to have a deeper look at your competencies;
  • you are interested to experience working with the ETS competence model for youth workers and in developing within;
  • you are particularly curious and motivated to explore how attitudes and behaviours can impact your work with young people;
  • you are looking for a great opportunity to meet other colleagues and share, exchange, support and evolve;
  • you have a fairly good knowledge of English;
  • you have a structure that supports you (NGO, school, municipality, youth centre, etc.)

YOCOMO might be for you!

THIS COURSE IS NOT THE FIRST AND ONLY!

The YOCOMO courses are developed as a support for youth workers in their competence development. There are more YOCOMOs than this one implemented around Europe and they focus on different dimensions and levels of complexity of the competence model.

This particular YOCOMO on attitudes and behaviours is a tested training. The first pilot edition was held in 2019 and it has proved to be a beneficial course for youth workers. Have a look to our SALTO YouTube channel to listen to a few participants from the pilot edition, share bits of their experience in of this course.

DESIGN OF THIS TRAINING

YOCOMO is based on a long-term format and blended learning, meaning that they include:

  • One residential course of 5 days (arrivals on the 4th of May, working days on 5-9, departures on the 10th of May);
  • Pre online course starting from the beginning of April (to start exploration and orientation, define learning needs, engage with others) - approximately 8 - 10 hours in total;
  • Post online course in between the residential and the consolidation (to experiment, harvest and further learn) – approximately 8 - 10 hours in total;
  • Final consolidation meeting on 28-30 September 2020. At the time of this call, this is to be confirmed but should it be, you should commit to participate in that meeting as well.

The general approach is based on the principles of non-formal learning and the course strongly supports reflection and self-directed learning.

YOCOMO TEAM OF TRAINERS

The team is composed of Monika Kezaite, Salvi Greco and Snežana Bačlija Knoch. Following the selection process, the training team will contact the selected participants with specific information and tasks regarding the further development of the programme, which include online learning as well.
